Pets not Pests!
The genus "Camponotus" directly translates to "Carpenter ant." Contrary to common belief, carpenter ants do not "eat wood." While yes, they are known to cause damage in houses, this is only true if the wood has rotted or is constantly soft because of moisture, making it a great place to start a colony.
Carpenter ants do make a great beginner species as they are slow growing, decently sized, and polymorphic. (Has different sized workers.)
